The Field
Lacrosse is played on a grass field. The field is 110 yards long by 60 yards wide. The face of the goal (6 feet high by 6 feet wide) is situated 15 yds in from the end line. There are 4 positions in lacrosse (Goalie, Defense, Midfield and Attack). There are 10 players on the field at one time (3 Attackman, 3 Midfielders, 3 Defense and 1 Goalie). This is a game of endurance and the players substitute often. A competitive squad will utilize 5 Attackman, 9 Midfielders, 5 Defenseman and 1 Goalie in the course of a full game.
Positions
Attackman:
Positioned on the offensive half of the field. An Attackman possesses greater stick skills to control the offense and score goals. A Marksman.
Midfielder:
Covers the offensive & defensive halves of the field. A Midfielder possesses endurance and both offensive & defensive abilities. The Midfielders run in shifts and substitute approximately every 2 trips up and down the field. A true Ironman.
Defenseman:
Positioned on the defensive half of the field. A Defenseman possesses the awareness to cover an opponent and provide support when a teammate gets beat (i.e knock the opponent down). A goon.
Goalie:
Positioned in front of the goal. Must be quick and aggressive with the ability to lead his defensemen. Fearless!
Equipment
Every player must wear a helmet, shoulder pads, arm pad, gloves, a cup, mouth guard and cleats.
